83-Year Old woman Arrested for Beating a Police Officer

Many elders speak of how back in the good ‘ole days they used to leave doors unlocked. Well these days, 83-year-old people are the very ones beating up police officers. Rosella Robinson, 83 was arrested on Monday after being charged with battery of a police officer and resisting arrest. NBC News Chicagoreports:

“Elgin police said the incident began about 4:05 p.m. Monday when an officer noticed Rosella Robinson of South Elgin sitting in a car in an area of Elgin known for drug and gang activity. When she saw the officer watching she made an illegal U-turn and drove away, police said. After the officer stopped her, Robinson tried to drive away repeatedly until he reached into the car and switched off its ignition, police said. Robinson then grabbed the officer’s arm, scratching and beating on it until it bled, police said.”

Usually people arrested for charges like police battery and resisting arrest are simply held in prison until a court hearing the next morning. Due to Robinson’s age and health, however, Judge James Hallock made special arrangements calling an 8 p.m. emergency hearing at the police station. According to NBC News Chicago, “Hallock ordered [Robinson] released on her own recognizance until an Aug. 9 hearing, and police said a relative drove her home.”
