Eddie Murphy Has Been Officially Chosen to Host the Academy Awards

It’s official: Eddie Murphy will be hosting the Oscars this year. It was originally reported that Murphy was in talks to host the Oscars, but that no decision had been made. Well, it has been announced that Murphy will now be the host of the 84th annual Academy Awards, as stated by producers Brett Ratner and Don Mischer on Tuesday.
Ratner said that the 50-year old Murphy is “a comedic genius; one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever.”
“With his love of movies, history of crafting unforgettable characters and his iconic performances — especially on stage — I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show Don and I want to produce in February,” Ratner said.
Mischer referred to Murphy as ”a truly groundbreaking performer” whose “quick wit and charisma will serve him very well as Oscar host.”
Murphy has publicly stated that he is “enormously honored” to be hosting the awards, following a legion of other superstars, including Johnny Carson, Bob Hope, Billy Crystal, Steve Martin and Whoopi Goldberg. The awards show is going to be held on February 26, 2012 at the Kodak Theatre.

Good news
What’s this really about? We all know Eddie’s career is over so what’s really going on? Is he staring in a movie? Is he about to have a TV show? Oh I know…”Child Support” and Johnny Gill both of which are expensive!
OMG Eddie Murphy being a host makes me very nervous. Any comedian of the today’s comedians being a host would make me nervous. Respectful and funny comedians no longer exist. They always go too far with their jokes and it becomes no longer a family show.
I must admit, last years show was a total mess and while watching the foolishness of it all, I could not help but wonder, when it comes to selecting MC’s for the academy awards….Where were their brains of the producers ? ?
The Johnny Carsons of yesterday, with respect and funny lines are gone. Modern day comedians are disgusting and rude and always take their jokes too far !
I think Eddie will make a great host, He’s not done yet.
I am very proud of Eddie. I believe he will do a good job. If he can MC the way he is capable of performing on the screen, I think he will do just fine. My greatest concern is that he will keep it alive and not bore the people. He is brilliant. and creative. so his performance has to be appealing to his audience. He has to generate dialouge that they have never heard before yet is funny, inspiring, exciting , informative and yet up with the times. He is going to be just fine.
I will probably watch the Oscars only because Eddie Murphy is hosting. He is one of the most talented people in the industry in the last twenty years…..he made SNL History with his characterizations and his performance in Dream Girls was one of the best on screen!!!!
